Bill Daily
Bill Daily (born August 30, 1927 in Des Moines , Iowa , † September 4, 2018 in Santa Fe , New Mexico ) was an American comedian and actor who was best known for his roles in sitcoms . In German-speaking countries, he is identified above all with his role as astronaut Major Healey in the series The Bewitching Jeannie , which he played in 131 episodes alongside Larry Hagman and Barbara Eden .
Life
Since Daily's father died early, he grew up as a half-orphan. At the age of eleven, he moved to Chicago with his mother and other family members , where he spent the remainder of his youth. After graduating from school, he left home and tried a career as a musician. He played bass in numerous jazz bands in clubs in the American Midwest, but it was during this time that he found his true calling, comedy , and began as a stand-up comedian in the same clubs where he was previously a musician to occur. He was soon performing in the major clubs in the country.
After attending the Goodman Theater School, he worked for the NBC television station in Chicago as an announcer and department head and eventually became the director of human resources. The manager of NBC liked dailies smart appearance and excellent timing, which is why he in the 1960s for numerous guest appearances on sitcoms like My Mother the Car and Bewitched (Bewitched) was selected. Through these appearances, he fell on the screenwriter Sidney Sheldon , who saw in him the ideal actor for one of the roles in his new sitcom Enchanting Jeannie (I Dream of Jeannie) . In retrospect, it was one of the most important moments in Daily's career. In Dream of Jeannie Daily embodied the role of the Air Force - test pilots and astronauts Roger Healey , the best friend of the main character Tony Nelson (played by Larry Hagman ). For Daily, this was a dream role.
In 1972, Daily took on a role that was particularly well known in the USA as flight captain Howard Borden on the Bob Newhart Show . Later in his career he had occasional guest appearances, for example in the series Alf as the psychologist Larry. Even at an advanced age, Daily occasionally appeared in guest roles and directed a local children's theater.
Daily was married three times and had two adopted children and one birth child, one of his two adopted children from his first marriage is director of photography J. Patrick Daily . He died in September 2018, a few days after his 91st birthday.
