Bill Gerber
Bill Gerber (born April 30, 1957 in the United States ) is an American film and television producer and former music manager.
Life
Bill Gerber tried unsuccessfully as a drummer in various local bands. When these dreams failed, he tried his hand at being a music manager. So he got to know the band Devo , who initially preferred Elliot Roberts . Gerber started working for his management company Lookout and then managed not only Devo but also bands such as The Cars and Heaven 17 .
Gerber was able to win a deal with Warner Bros. via music management . Since film soundtracks like Flashdance (1983) and Urban Cowboy (1980) were in vogue, he offered Warner a music-based film, but it was never made. As a result, he came to Warner, who were able to win him as an executive employee. For example, he oversaw the production of films such as Oliver Stones JFK (1991) and Cape Fear (1991). In 1996 he became Warner's Worldwide President of Theatrical Production, but was fired in 1998 after an internal dispute. But with Warner's approval, he was allowed to run a production company on their premises, with Warner Bros. receiving a first-look agreement .
His first executive producer film was Get Carter (2000). Numerous other films followed, such as Queen of the Damned (2002) or Gran Torino by Clint Eastwood (2008). For the James Dean biopic James Dean (2001), he got an Emmy nomination for best TV film in 2002 . At the negative award for the Golden Raspberry , he was nominated for Ein Duke seldom in two categories alone . The film A Star Is Born (2018) was nominated for Best Film at the 2019 Academy Awards. He shared the Oscar nomination with the other two producers Bradley Cooper and Lynette Howell Taylor .
