Sorry for the role the Church played in the Prayer Book Rebellion

In June 2007, Bill Ind stated that the massacre of thousands of Catholic rebels in Cornwall during the Prayer Book Rebellion more than 450 years ago was an "enormous mistake" of which the Church of England should be ashamed. During a ceremony in Pelynt , Ind spoke of the "brutality and stupidity" of the violence at the time.

"I am often asked about my attitude to the Prayerbook Rebellion and in my opinion, there is no doubt that the English Government behaved brutally and stupidly and killed many Cornish people. I don't think apologising for something that happened over 500 years ago helps, but I am sorry about what happened and I think it was an enormous mistake. "

- Joe Rogers : From an Irish Market Town, Baltimore 2011, p. 137

“I have been asked many times about my opinion on the Prayerbook Rebellion and there is no doubt in my opinion that the English government has acted brutally and stupidly and had many of the Cornish residents killed. I don't think there's any point in apologizing for something that happened over 500 years ago, but I'm sorry and I think it was a big mistake. "

Ind urged the Church to accept her complicity for events in history that killed ten percent of the Cornish population. At a meeting of the Celtic League in Perranporth in October 2004 , delegates from six Celtic countries unanimously supported a request to the church to acknowledge their complicity in “that the 'Prayer Book Uprising' in 1549 was challenged and suppressed” and “for everything what has since been and is being done to suppress Cornish national identity, political freedom, language and culture ” . Bishop Ind himself added: “Cornwall is a place to be protected and loved. It was never an English county, it has its own language and its history reminds us of connections to Ireland , Wales , Brittany and the Celtic past. "
