Billy Talent III is the third studio album by the Canadian rock band Billy Talent . It was produced by the American Brendan O'Brien . It was released on July 10, 2009 in Germany on the label Wmi (Warner) and three days later in the UK on Atlantic Records .

Emergence
In early 2008, Billy Talent began writing new songs. This phase was interrupted by a tour as opening act for My Chemical Romance , after which they wrote the remaining pieces. October 2008 the band went into the studio to record the album. Of the three years between the Billy Talent II and Billy Talent III albums, Billy Talent was on tour for two years.
In September 2008 Billy Talent released a demo of the song "Turn Your Back" with a guest appearance by the band Anti-Flag . This guest appearance can no longer be heard on the album version. A website for the album was also set up.
Brendan O'Brien was very important to the album, according to Billy Talent. So they relate the sound, which is “completely different from the previous albums” , to his collaboration. In another interview they describe Brendan O'Brien as the "biggest difference to previous albums".

Versions
The album was released on July 10, 2009 in three versions. The first version contains the 11 songs; the second has three additional songs and comes in a digipak . The third variant, titled Billy Talent III: Guitar Villain Edition in English , contains an additional CD on which the 11 songs of the first CD are contained in a version in which the audio tracks of the guitars have been removed (play-along CD) . There are also the three bonus tracks of the digipak edition, as well as another demo track. The third edition also contains guitar tabs of all pieces of music on the album in the form of two posters.
Single releases
Rusted from the Rain was selected as the first single . It was released on MTV on May 19, 2009 and made it into the top 20 of the charts in Germany and Austria. The next release is Devil on My Shoulder . The third single was the song Saint Veronika on February 26, 2010 , the content of which is based on the novel Veronika decides to die by Paulo Coelho . In the summer of 2010, Diamond on a Landmine was released as the fourth single.
Reviews
In various reviews, Billy Talent III was consistently worse than its predecessor Billy Talent II. Plattentests.de criticized the lack of further development, described the album as "moderate" and rated it with 5 out of 10 points. Also Laut.de criticized lack of "creativity and innovation" , but the "avowal to basics" was also seen positively and awarded 3 out of 5. Whiskey-soda.de called the album the “most disappointing album of the band so far” , but gave it a 2 ( grade scale ).
There were also discrepancies in the ratings of the critics in the English press . Drowned in Sound wrote: “The intensity of Billy Talent III feels like the intensity of the band's live performances: awkwardly contrived and utterly repulsive.” ( “The intensity on Billy Talent III feels the same as the intensity of the band's live show, awkwardly forced and absolutely repellent. “ ) and rated the album with 2 out of 10 points. In contrast, Rock Sound rated the album 9 out of 10 and wrote: “ Billy Talent III is an amazing example of a band at the top of their game” ( “'Billy Talent III' is a mind-blowing example of a band at the top of their game. ” ) The BBC also saw the album positively and wrote:“ If you like melodic, euphoric rock with epic guitar riffs , then you will like Billy Talent III ”( “ […] if you like melodic, upbeat rock with epic guitar riffs - you'll like Billy Talent III " ).
