Bionic Jive is an American rap metal and rapcore band from Phoenix , Arizona , that was founded in 1998, disbanded in 1999 and has been active again since 2000.

history

The band was formed in early 1998 and consisted of guitarists Michael McGregor and Larry "Love" Elyea, bassist Richard "Cunni" Gartner, drummer George Robbins, singer Derrick Burrows and drummer, saxophonist and DJ Chris "TGI" Elsnor. This was followed by the first local appearances and in 1999 the self-published debut album The Six-Billion Dollar Band before it was dissolved.

At the end of 2000 the band reunited with a different line-up, consisting of Elyea, Gartner and Elsnor, now on drums, as well as rappers Asayanda "Ako" Mack and Mark "Emerg McVay" Moore. Thereupon the music producer Jimmy Iovine became aware of the band and took them in 2001 with his label Interscope Records under contract, about which the album Armageddon Through Your Speakers was released in October . This was followed by appearances together with Kottonmouth Kings before they went on a three-week tour with D12 in 2001 . In December I Shot Lucifer was released as a single. Then in March 2002 six appearances followed with Nas . That summer the group had a place on Eminem's Anger Management Tour , which Papa Roach also took part in. In 2002 and 2003 the band also organized a number of national club tours themselves. The single Ricochet was heard in a commercial for the film The Transporter from the same year in August 2002 . The band was also featured in the 2002 films Resident Evil, 2003 The Italian Job, and the video games Postal 2 and ATV Quad Power Racing 2 . During this time, music videos were also made for the songs Pump and I Shot Lucifer .

In 2003 Elyea and Elsnor left the band. In 2004 the compilation Armageddon Unrealeased was released , which consists of old demos , remixes and material that did not make it onto the previous album. That same year, Gartner contacted original members McGregor and Robbins, who were returning to the band to replace Elyea and Elsnor. Both should initially only come to the band to write new songs, with other members on stage. However, this idea was rejected, so that both were also active live. The group then moved to Elyeas Minds Eye digital recording studio in Scottsdale , Arizona, before the 2008 album Passion Over Politics was released. In 2012 the EP E.GO was published.

style

Christian Graf referred to the band in his Nu Metal and Crossover Lexicon as a rapcore group that was based on Limp Bizkit and Crazy Town . Jason Birchmeier of Allmusic described Bionic Jive in his review Armageddon Through Your Speakers as the band of the second rap metal wave after Limp Bizkit. Bands like Linkin Park and POD also belonged to this wave . The music on the album is reminiscent of 311 and Rage Against the Machine . The lyrics would serve the typical hip-hop cliché and deal with topics such as money, pimping , alcohol and violence.
