Birgit Stauber (born May 13, 1974 in Vienna ) is an Austrian actress , screenwriter and director .

education

After graduating from high school, Birgit Stauber completed her training from 1993 to 1995 at the University of Music and Performing Arts Vienna in musicals and from 1995 to 2000 in musical theater directing, which she completed in 2000 with a Master of Arts (MA), as well as with Eric Morris in his Actor's Class & Hollywood Acting Workshop in Los Angeles and at the Vienna Film School (acting & directing). In 2015 she completed the Editing Masterclass of the Oscar- nominated cutter Tariq Anwar in Barcelona.

Stauber also completed private dance training in ballet , jazz dance , tap dance , funk (1988–1993) and North Indian Kathak dance (2004–2008).

In 1996 Birgit Stauber celebrated her TV debut at the side of Peter Weck and Christiane Hörbiger . In 2002 she starred as Chris Rabe in the action series Wilde Engel and became known to a wider audience.

Script work

In 1996 she wrote her first musical show Tell Me Why , premiered at Theater am Alsergrund , Vienna. In 1999 she wrote and staged her second music theater piece torn , premiered in the Neue Studiobühne of the Max Reinhardt Seminar , Vienna. In 2005 she founded Leyendas Filmproduktion in Berlin, followed by the second company location in Vienna in 2014. The short film Adieu Bonjour , written and produced by Stauber, was funded by the Medienboard Berlin Brandenburg in 2007 due to its unusual script. This success confirmed her by professionally pursuing her passion for telling stories visually. Today she not only develops and writes her own material, but above all for other directors .

Ensemble work

One of her first roles was Little Red Riding Hood in the musical Into the Woods by Stephen Sondheim . Birgit Stauber was also a member of the Sisters United ensemble! (Direction: Anna Demel) in Vienna and the Kathak Dance Company and the Taiko drum show Rasa Daiko (Direction: Beate Gatscha) in Berlin.

Awards

Birgit Stauber won the Rising Movie Talent Award in 1998 (Newcomer Award of the Munich Film Festival ). In 2003 she was nominated as a shooting star for the Austrian film and television award Romy . In 2007 she was awarded the jury prize at the BARS International Film Festival in Buenos Aires / Argentina for her role as Juliet in the film Auf bösem Boden . In 2015 she received the Wim-Wenders-Stipendium 2015 from the Wim-Wenders-Foundation for her screenplay by Freak City (director: Andreas Kannengießer ; based on a novel by Kathrin Schrocke ) . In 2017 she was nominated as "Best Actress" for her role in the web series "Another Day in Paradise" at the Actors Awards, Los Angeles, and won in the category "Best Actress in a Drama". In 2018 she won, also for "Another Day in Paradise", together with colleague Naomi Beukes in the category "Best Duo" at the Los Angeles Film Awards.
