Birkhorst is part of the municipality of Salzbrunn in the town of Beelitz in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in the state of Brandenburg .

location

Birkhorst is about two kilometers west of Salzbrunn. The further demarcation of the district connects to the north and west . In the south lies the Beelitz district of Buchholz , while in the east the district adjoins Alt Bork , a district of the Linthe community . The Neue Graben flows to the west in a northerly direction into the Nieplitz .

history

The history of Birkhorst is closely related to Salzbrunn. These areas, too, had largely fallen into desolation after the Thirty Years' War and were used by the inhabitants of Wittbrietzen and the neighboring Elsholz for cattle breeding and agriculture. As in Salzbrunn, Frederick the Great had four families from the Palatinate recruited in Birkhorst , who were settled in the spring of 1748 in the area of a former Meierhof on the Berghorst . The complex also provided for a street village . To the north of the village road to Alt Bork, three farmsteads were laid out. They were supplemented by a homestead south of the road. There were also two buildings that were still there from Klausdorf, which was first mentioned in 1375. From the documents a Berkhorstmühle in Klausdorf is handed down, which in 1748 came to the municipality of Salzbrunn. A bridge over the Mühlgraben made the connection to the west; to the east, the existing connections to Salzbrunn and the forester's house could be used. The administration was carried out by the Salzbrunn mayor Peter Scheerer .

On May 6, 1749, the colonists took an oath before the royal commissioner of the Saarmund office to be “loyal, gracious and present” to the king. Frederick II exempted them from taxes for two years. The colonists continued to swear “at the end of their free years to give the inheritance interest paid to me correctly in the office, and also do everything else that is due to an honest underground and hereditary interest man”. In 1755, workers discovered that the bridge over the Neue Graben had become in need of repair. They received lumber from the Saarmund Office and were able to renovate the building in 1810.

In addition to the farm buildings and the construction of a church in Salzbrunn, the residents around the miller Gottlieb Wenner built a windmill that was operated by Adolf Zemlin until the 1920s . He also maintained a watermill that was in use until the outbreak of World War II . In 1960 craftsmen tore down the now dilapidated windmill. In 1978 construction soldiers paved the connection from Bundesstraße 2 via Salzbrunn to Birkhorst. In October 1979, workers found that the bridge over the Königsgraben had become dilapidated. Experts suspected that the cause was the considerable loads from tanks of the Red Army , which also drove through Birkhorst during maneuvers. The structure was replaced by a new concrete building. A road connection to the forester's house has existed since 1993.

As of October 6, 2014, there were 45 residents in Birkhorst.

Infrastructure and traffic

The village street runs cross-shaped through the municipality. In a westerly direction it creates a connection to Alt Bork and ends in an easterly direction on an agricultural area. To the north it leads across the road expansion to Schäpe and Salzbrunn; in a southerly direction also to Salzbrunn. At their intersection there is a bus stop for the Berlin-Brandenburg transport association , whose line 642 leads to Beelitz and Buchholz.
