Zauchwitz is a district of the town of Beelitz in the Potsdam-Mittelmark district in the state of Brandenburg . The place is located on the Zauche southwest of the state capital Potsdam . Since the major Brandenburg regional reform in 2001, Zauchwitz has been part of the city of Beelitz.

Zauchwitz is a classic street village and is located at the intersection of the federal highway 246 with the country road between Rieben and Wildenbruch (L 73). The Körzin settlement belonging to the district of Zauchwitz is particularly popular with Berlin nature lovers as a starting point for hikes and bike tours through the Nuthe-Nieplitz nature park .

history

The oldest written mention of the place name comes from the year 1317, when a Henningus de Zuchwitz signed a deed of ownership for a property east of Stangenhagen as a witness.

Since the name Zauchwitz is derived from the Slavic czucha , which means something like dry land , it is assumed that the place was founded by Slavs . Zauche is also the entire region of the beginning here Geest back .

The village church of Zauchwitz was first mentioned in a document in 1459. However, investigations showed that the stone church was built on a previous building from the 13th century. After being destroyed in the Thirty Years War , it was rebuilt in 1650. Inside there is a pulpit altar from 1726 and a south and east gallery from the 18th century. During the renovation work in the 1990s, experts were able to uncover an ornamental window frame that dates from the Middle Ages .
