history

The diocese Governador Valadares was on February 1, 1956 by Pope Pius XII. established with the Apostolic Constitution Ecclesiae universae from cessions of territory of the Archdiocese of Diamantina and the dioceses of Araçuaí and Caratinga . It was subordinated to the Archdiocese of Mariana as a suffragan . On 24 May 1985, the Diocese of Governador Valadares were parts of its territory to the founding of the Apostolic Constitution quidem Recte erected diocese Guanhães from.
