The diocese of Melo ( Latin Dioecesis Melensis ) is a Roman Catholic suffragan diocese in Uruguay with its seat in Melo . The diocesan bishop is Heriberto Andrés Bodeant Fernández .
history
From the division of the Diocese of Florida , today's Diocese of Melo was established on November 15, 1955. On June 25, 1960, the Diocese of Minas emerged from the diocese territory of Melo . Under canon law , the Diocese of Melo is subordinate to the Metropolitan Diocese and Archdiocese of Montevideo . Around 110,000 Roman Catholic Christians live in the sixteen parishes of the diocese . They are cared for pastorally by eleven diocesan priests , eight fathers , and one deacon in the permanent diaconate . In the pastoral care of Roman Catholic Christians, they are supported by 39 nuns and eight friars .
