The Diocese of Salto ( Latin Dioecesis Saltensis in Uruguay , Spanish Diócesis de Salto ) is a Roman Catholic suffragan diocese in Uruguay with its seat in the city of Salto .
history
The diocese of Salto was established on April 14, 1879. Territorially, it emerged from the diocese of Montevideo . On November 15, 1955 and December 17, 1960 parts of the diocese's own territory were made available for the establishment of the dioceses of San José de Mayo and Mercedes . Around 292,000 Roman Catholic Christians live in sixteen parishes in the Diocese of Salto . Seventeen diocesan priests and seventeen fathers take care of their pastoral care in the diocese of Salto . Eight permanent deacons , seventy-one nuns and twenty-three friars also ensure pastoral service . Under canon law , the Diocese of Salto, as a suffragan diocese, is subject to the Archdiocese of Montevideo.
