Pablo Jaime Galimberti di Vietri (born May 8, 1941 in Montevideo , Uruguay ) is a Uruguayan clergyman and emeritus Roman Catholic bishop of Salto .

Life

Pablo Jaime Galimberti di Vietri studied after attending the minor seminary of Montevideo at the Theological Institute Monsignor Mariano Soler and at the inter-diocesan seminary Cristo Rey philosophy. He completed his theological studies from 1965 to 1969 at the Pontifical Gregorian University in Rome, where he obtained a license in dogmatics . After he was ordained deacon , he spent six months in St. Louis and then worked in a parish in Montevideo. On May 29, 1971, he received the sacrament of ordination for the Archdiocese of Montevideo .

After his ordination, he taught dogmatics at the Theological Institute Monseñor Mariano Soler and religious phenomenology at the Catholic University of Uruguay. Since 1974 he has been active in the formation of priests.

Pope John Paul II appointed him Bishop of San José de Mayo on December 12, 1983 . The apostolic nuncio in Uruguay, Archbishop Franco Brambilla , donated him episcopal ordination on March 18 of the following year. Co- consecrators were the Archbishop of Montevideo, Carlos Parteli Keller , and Raúl Horacio Scarrone Carrero , Auxiliary Bishop in Montevideo.

From 1998 to 2000 he was vice chairman, from 2001 to 2003 general secretary and then chairman of the Uruguayan Bishops' Conference ( Conferencia Episcopal del Uruguay ). He was also vice-president of the Confraternidad Judeo-Cristiana de Uruguay . For two five-year terms he was a member of the Congregation for the Clergy and five years consultor of the Pontifical Council for Dialogue with Non-Believers .

Pope Benedict XVI appointed him on May 16, 2006 Bishop of Salto .

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on July 24, 2018.
