Fernando Miguel Gil Eisner

Fernando Miguel Gil Eisner (born May 8, 1953 in Montevideo , † January 17, 2020 in Salto ) was a Uruguayan clergyman , Roman Catholic theologian and bishop of Salto .

Life

Fernando Miguel Gil Eisner graduated from the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina with a degree in theology . On March 25, 1983, he received the sacrament of ordination for the diocese of Morón in Argentina . After further studies in the subject church history , he was at the Pontifical Gregorian University for Dr. theol. PhD . When the diocese Merlo-Moreno was spun off from the diocese of Morón, he was incardinated in its clergy in 1997 .

In addition to pastoral care, he was a professor at various Argentine seminaries . He was advisor to the Faith and Culture Commission of the Argentine Episcopal Conference and Spiritual at the Morón Seminary. Since 2003 he has been director of the library of the Catholic Theological Faculty of the Pontifical Catholic University of Argentina. In 2008 he became Pro-Dean of this faculty, which he headed from 2009 to 2011 as Dean .

On July 24, 2018, Pope Francis appointed him Bishop of Salto. The Archbishop of Montevideo , Daniel Fernando Cardinal Sturla Berhouet SDB , donated him episcopal ordination on September 23 of the same year. Co- consecrators were his predecessor Pablo Jaime Galimberti di Vietri and the Bishop of Merlo-Moreno, Fernando Carlos Maletti .
