The Diocese of San José de Mayo ( Latin Dioecesis Sancti Iosephi in Uraquaria , Spanish Diócesis de San José de Mayo ) is a Roman Catholic suffragan diocese in Uruguay with its seat in San José de Mayo . It extends over the departments of San José and Flores .
history
The diocese was founded on November 15, 1955 by Pope Pius XII. from the diocese of Montevideo and Salto . On December 17, 1960 and November 25, 1961, parts of the diocese of San José de Mayo were made available to establish the dioceses of Mercedes and Canelones . Around 88,000 Roman Catholic Christians are at home in thirteen parishes in the diocese . They are looked after by thirteen diocesan priests and six priests . Two permanent deacons , ten friars and eighteen nuns are involved in the care of the Roman Catholic Christians . The diocese is under canonical law of the Archdiocese of Montevideo .
