Björn Bjurling (born August 21, 1979 in Stockholm ) is a former Swedish ice hockey goalkeeper .
Career
Bjurling began his career at the age of eight with HC Kista in the youth team. A total of nine years followed with the youth of AIK Stockholm . He had his first professional engagement with Bodens IK , to which he remained loyal for a total of four years, where he also played the first games for Djurgårdens IF in the top Swedish league, the Elitserien , in his last year . Initially he was a backup for Joaquin Gage , but at the end of the 2002/03 season he made a name for himself with consistently good performances. When Gage moved to the Kassel Huskies in the German Ice Hockey League , he finally took over his position. In the 2004/05 season, the club was able to commit the two goalkeepers José Theodore and Marty Turco due to the lockout in the National Hockey League , so Bjurling received little ice age.
For this reason, he decided to restart and moved to Austria to EC Red Bull Salzburg , where he could not convince and was therefore released early. Bjurling then signed a contract with the Swiss club HC Servette Genève , where he played only a few games due to injury. The following year he moved to Norway to join Vålerenga IF . At the beginning of the season, however, an accident nearly ended his career when, on September 5, 2006, a puck hit his mask after a slap shot and caused him a serious eye injury. Bjurling recovered quickly, however, and was able to achieve the championship title with the team .
The following year he finally returned to his home country Sweden and signed a contract with Södertälje SK . There he was initially intended as a backup for Jhonas Enroth , but he was able to dispute his position with good performance. Enroth moved to North America in the summer of 2009, and Bjurling was subsequently number one at the club. For the 2010/11 season he moved to Brynäs IF within the Elitserien , where he played until November 2010. For the rest of the season he was awarded to his league rivals, his hometown club AIK Solna, where he ended his career at the end of the season.
