Bjartmar Gjerde (born November 6, 1931 in Sande , Fylke Møre og Romsdal ; † November 28, 2009 ) was a Norwegian politician of the Arbeiderpartiet , who was Minister for Churches and Education between 1971 and 1972 and again from 1973 to 1976, then between 1976 and 1978 Minister of Industry and then from 1978 to 1980 first Norwegian Minister for Oil and Energy . Afterwards he was director of the Norwegian Reichsrundfunk NRK ( Norsk rikskringkasting ) between 1981 and 1989 .

Life

Journalist, Chairman of the AUF and Secretary General of the AOF

Gjerde, son of the small farmer Hjalmar Gjerde and his wife Astrid Øvrelid, worked as a journalist for the daily newspaper Sunnmøre Arbeideravis from 1948 to 1953 and completed courses at the folk high school (Folkehøyskole) in 1950 . Subsequently, between 1953 and 1958, he was an editor at Fritt Slag , the newspaper of the youth association of the Arbeiderpartiet AUF ( Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking ) .

Gjerde then succeeded Reidar Hirsti as chairman of the Arbeidernes Ungdomsfylking in 1958 and held this position until he was replaced by Reiulf Steen in 1961. In this position he was a member of the State Youth Council (Statens Ungdomsråd) from 1958 to 1961 .

After a year of work between 1961 and 1962 as secretary of the faction of the workers 'party in Storting , he was general secretary of the Association for Workers' Adult Education AOF (Arbeidernes Opplysningsforbund) from 1963 to 1981 . During this time he completed a study visit at Harvard University in 1964 and was also a member of the Broadcasting Council (Kringkastingsrådet) from 1963 to 1974, a member of the Norwegian Culture Council (Norsk Kulturråd) between 1965 and 1985 and a member of the Adult Education Council (Voksenopplæringsrådet) from 1966 to 1971.

Vice-Member of the Storting and Minister

In the election of September 13, 1965 , Gjerde was elected as a candidate of the Arbeiderpartiet (Ap) for Oslo as a vice-member of the Storting and held this function until the election on September 8, 1969 . He was then chairman of Ap in Oslo between 1969 and 1972.

On March 17, 1971 he was appointed by Prime Minister Trygve Bratteli as Minister for Churches and Education (Kirke- og Undervisningsminister) in his first government , to which he belonged until the end of Bratteli's term on October 18, 1972.

In addition, he became a member of the central board of the Arbeiderpartiet in 1972 and was a member of it until 1981.

He also held the office of Minister for Churches and Education in the second government of Prime Minister Bratteli from October 16, 1973 to January 15, 1976.

In the government of odvar nordli , Brattelis successor as Prime Minister, he was born on January 15, 1976 First Industry Minister (Minister Industri) . After that, on January 11, 1978, he took over the newly created office of Minister for Oil and Energy (Olje og Energy Minister) , which was spun off from the Ministry of Industry. He held this ministerial office until he was replaced by Arvid Johanson as part of a further restructuring of the Nordli government on October 3, 1980.

Director of the NRK

After leaving the government, Gjerde succeeded Torolf Elster as director of the Norwegian National Broadcasting Corporation NRK (Norsk rikskringkasting) in 1981 . He held this position until he was replaced by Einar Førde in 1989. During his tenure, the 1980s saw the expansion of the regional studios and, in 1983, the broadcast of teletext .

After finishing his work at the NRK in 1989 he became director of the state employment office AETAT (Arbeidsmarkedsetaten), which is subordinate to the Ministry of Local Affairs and Labor, and remained in this position until 1994. Most recently, between 1995 and 1997, he was advisor to the Minister for Local Affairs and Labor.
