Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards is the 13th studio album by American rock musician Joe Satriani . It was released on October 5, 2010 under the music label Epic Records. The album reached the top 40 of the music charts in seven countries and is Satriani's first studio album after working with Chickenfoot and their debut release of the same name .
background
After Satriani finished his G3 concerts , he spent some time at home recording new music for a solo album. In two months, which he himself describes as “extremely productive” and “redeeming”, he created a “bundle of 16 songs”. With new music in his luggage, Satriani also designed a new studio band . This should consist of Mike Keneally , Chris Chaney and Vinnie Colaiuta . The rock guitarist described the chemistry between Satriani and the band members as "impressive" and "fantastic". Between June and August 2010, the recording work for the album took place at Skywalker Sound Studios. The overdubs presented Satriani on Valentine's completed in 2010. The finished mix was created in Vancouver . Together with his engineer and producer Mike Fraser, Satriani listened to his songs for the last time and gave permission for publication. The album title was announced on August 20, 2010.
The bonus tracks Heartbeats and Longing could be acquired by buying the album from Best Buy and Napster .

Criticism
Allmusic critic Stephen Thomas Erlewine thinks that the album has a "retro shimmer". Erlewine also finds that Satriani really left out on the hard core guitar album: "All of his phasers and flangers are in the highest position". Erlewine relates to the successful album Surfing with the Alien and finds that Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards Rock is without being aggressive. In conclusion, the American music critic awarded three out of five possible rating units for the publication.

Chart placements
In Austria, the album reached number 65 on the Austrian music charts . The publication reached 77th place in Flanders and 65th place in Wallonia on the Ultratop hit parade. In Croatia, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards ranked 32nd on the International Federation of the Phonographic Industry charts for foreign albums . In the Czech Republic , the rock album positioned 33rd on the charts. In the Netherlands and France, the album was placed 32 and 39 on the domestic charts. In Italy and Scotland, the releases reached positions 35 and 54. The album was also able to secure position 34 on the Swiss charts and reached position 85 on the German album charts . In Great Britain, Black Swans and Wormhole Wizards was able to position itself at number 62 on the album charts of the Official Charts Company and achieved the same position in the UK download and physical album charts. In the United States, the album peaked at number 45 on the Billboard 200 and reached number 5 and 7 on the top hard rock and independent album charts. On the charts of the best US rock albums, Satriani's release was 14th. In the Tastemaker and Sales charts, the publication was placed 23rd and 45th.
