Black and White America is Lenny Kravitz's ninth studio album .
To the formation
Lenny Kravitz had already worked on the radio-influenced album in 2009 . For the first time Kravitz released an album on Roadrunner Records . Originally planned as Negrophilia , Kravitz announced the title Black and White America on December 13, 2010 . The design of the album was done by the French photographer Mathieu Bitton, who had previously worked with Lenny Kravitz. The cover shows a detail of a picture of the young Kravitz with a "Peace" symbol in black on his forehead and the word "Peace" on his cheek. The whole photo also shows Kravitz's mother next to him, but this cannot be seen in the normal edition. In contrast to his early studio albums, this time Kravitz also worked increasingly in the studio with members of his live band. First and foremost, guitarist Craig Ross should be mentioned, who was also involved in the songwriting. The features of rappers Jay-Z and Drake as well as DJ Militarys provide hip-hop sounds. The musician Trombone Shorty , who is friends with Kravitz , also plays the trombone on several songs. In return, Kravitz supported him on his album For True on bass.
success
The album reached number one in the German and Swiss charts, number two in Austria, but only number 18 in the US charts. Laut.de wrote: "Also on 'Black And White America' the funk is exploding at a high level, its casual rock sounds at least look around the corner and Lenny Kravitz has a little bit of eggs too."
