Strut is the tenth studio album by the musician Lenny Kravitz . It was released in Germany on September 19, 2014 and was the first release on his own label Roxie Records with distribution by Kobalt Music Group . It was released 25 years after the first album Let Love Rule .

Emergence

Lenny Kravitz wrote all the songs on the album - except one - and played the instruments. The recordings in the Beachfront Studios in the Bahamas were accompanied by the support of Craig Ross and other musicians and singers. His photographer Mathieu Bitton and Woody Harrelson are among the gossipers for two titles . It was mixed and mastered by Bob Clearmountain and Bob Ludwig.

When Kravitz had finished writing the tracks for the album, he was in the mask for the filming of Catchin Fire and heard Ooo Baby Baby by Smokey Robinson and The Miracles on the radio. He liked the song so much that he soon decided to cover it as the twelfth track for the new album. He had never released a cover version on an album before .

The album cover shows Lenny Kravitz head-on with sunglasses in a closed jacket, under which the bare upper body is visible. It is in black and white and contains the album title STRUT in the upper right corner . as lettering and the name of the artist in capital letters at the bottom.

criticism

The reviews of the album were mixed. Sebastian Meißner from Plattentests.de says, “ Strut is an overwhelmingly positive chapter in the history of Kravitz. An album on which Lenny shows herself hungry and eager to experiment as it has not for a long time. "

Sven Kabelitz rates individual titles on laut.de as "lacking in juice" and "worn out" with "lacking inspiration". Overall, however, he judges the album as the "end of the downward spiral" that was initiated with the last albums - only to recommend to the artist at the end of the review that he should refrain from releasing other albums like this one.

“The bottom line is that Kravitz stops his free fall. After four, sometimes shockingly weak, low blows in a row, 'Strut' is by no means a masterpiece in the style of Let Love Rule or Mama Said , but it is by far the best and most complete album since 5 from 1998, "says Jens Bauszus in one Article for the Focus .

Rolling Stone wrote of the piece New York City that it had "the best melody that even Mick Jagger couldn't have written in his Studio 54 days".
