Raise Vibration is the eleventh studio album by the musician Lenny Kravitz . It was released on September 7, 2018 as the second release on his label Roxie Records with distribution by BMG Rights Management .

Emergence

Lenny Kravitz wrote all the songs on the album himself and also played the instruments himself. The recordings in the Gregory Town Sound Studios on Eleuthera in the Bahamas were accompanied by Craig Ross and other musicians and singers. It was mastered by Bernie Grundman .

The ideas for many pieces on the album came to him in his sleep, so that he sometimes woke up at night and drove to the studio to record them straight away. For Low he used recordings by Michael Jackson in the background , which come from the earlier collaboration on "(I Can't Make It) Another Day". In Johnny Cash he processes his feelings after the death of his mother Roxie Roker. Johnny Cash and June Carter would have comforted him when he learned of her death - they were living in the same house with producer Rick Rubin in Los Angeles at the time.

In the compositions Who Really Are the Monsters? and Here to Love he takes a political position on the situation in the world and opposes all acts of war. With It's Enough he also denounces the destruction of the environment - the accompanying music video with a length of 7:55 minutes makes this clear with original excerpts from official reports.

The blue-tones album cover shows Lenny Kravitz head-on with crossed legs standing on the beach with the sunset in the background.

criticism

The reviews of the album were mixed. Sven Kabelitz from laut.de says: “With 'Raise Vibration', Lenny Kravitz succeeds in using the downward spiral, which has been tentative at first and then more and more tense for the last twenty years, and to bounce back eagerly. Leaning on the spirit of his first albums, guitarist Craig Ross gives him a clear, sometimes too good sound. A little more pepper would have done some pieces good, a few songs remain below their potential. Nevertheless, Kravitz unexpectedly delivers his best album since 5. "( Sven Kabelitz : laut.de)

Felix Heinecker sees it in a similar way: “The twelve songs take their time, celebrate jam sessions and mostly don't care about tight songwriting corsets. OK then. [...] He was never a really great lyric poet, but the banalities that can be endured on 'Raise Vibration' are quite exhausting. [...] the bottom line is, 'Raise Vibration' is again an album with great songs and a few missteps that will still hardly attract new fans. "( Felix Heinecker : plattentest.de)

“Lenny Kravitz doesn't have to prove anything on his eleventh album. In classic rock, he takes a stand on the world situation and hopes for the reconciliation of mankind. The record is strongest where the message is secondary and Kravitz lets instruments speak. "
