Blake Ellis (born January 6, 1999 in Brisbane , Queensland ) is an Australian tennis player .

Career

Junior career

As a junior, Ellis successfully played tennis. In 2016 he competed in all four junior editions of the Grand Slam tournaments . In 2017 he reached the quarter-finals for the first time at a tournament of this category in Paris , his best result that he lost to Nicola Kuhn . Ellis was much more successful in doubles: in 2016 he won the Australian Open with Alex De Minaur . In 2016 at the French Open and at his last junior tournament in 2017 in Wimbledon (this time with Matteo Martineau) he lost in the semi-finals. He reached his highest junior ranking with 23rd place.

Career as a professional

Early on, Ellis played tournaments on the third-rate ITF Future Tour . He won his first match on the higher endowed ATP Challenger Tour in Canberra in 2017, when he defeated Lucas Miedler and Evan King . At the end of the year he was 675th in the world tennis rankings in singles and 757th in doubles. At the beginning of 2018, he achieved his best performance in a Challenger to date with the semi-finals in Kyoto . He won six matches in a row before losing to John Millman , the tournament winner. He was able to celebrate his second future title in doubles.

The year 2019 got off to a successful start for Ellis with his Grand Slam debut at the Australian Open . There he competed with Alexei Popyrin and defeated two better endowed pairings before they lost to Łukasz Kubot and Horacio Zeballos . Then he was highest in the individual ranking with 348th place in the individual. The rest of the year passed without any highlights, in doubles he managed to improve his best ranking with passable results in September with 212th place. In 2020 he flew out in Melbourne with his previous partner in the first round. He went into the Corona break with a significantly lower ranking than in the previous year.
