Blake Russell

Blake Russell (born: Phillips ; born July 24, 1975 in Winston-Salem ) is an American long-distance runner .

In 1999 she won bronze in the 5000m at the Pan American Games in Winnipeg , and in 2000 she was seventh in the US eliminator for the Sydney Olympic Games in the 10,000m .

In 2003 she won the Twin Cities Marathon in 2:30:41 h on her debut over the 42.195 km distance . The following year, she narrowly missed participation in the marathon of the Athens Olympic Games in fourth in the US elimination bout and was ninth in the Chicago Marathon .

At the 2005 Cross Country World Championships , she finished 15th on the short distance and won bronze with the US team. As US runner-up over 10,000 m, she started over this distance at the World Athletics Championships in Helsinki and came in 22nd there. In the 20 km road run she was US champion and sixth in Chicago.

In 2006 she became US champion in cross-country running and 15-km road running. At the Cross Country World Championships she finished 18th on the short distance and eleventh on the long distance.

In 2007, she was sidelined for most of the season because of a broken metatarsal bone . In 2008, she asserted herself in third place in the US elimination marathon and was then nominated for the Olympic Games in Beijing , where she came in 27th.

She gave birth to a boy in early 2009 and was on maternity leave. In 2010 she reported back with a victory at the San José Half Marathon , but had to cancel the planned start of the New York City Marathon due to an injury.

Blake Russell is 1.65 m tall and weighs 49 kg. She studied at the University of North Carolina and Elon University, which she graduated in 2000 with a Masters in Physiotherapy .
