Bleiswijk ( ) is a village and a former municipality in the Netherlands , province of South Holland . On January 1, 2007, Bleiswijk merged with the municipalities of Bergschenhoek and Berkel en Rodenrijs to form the new municipality of Lansingerland .
Location and economy
Bleiswijk is 5 km east of Zoetermeer and 12 km west of Gouda on the A12 motorway ( Utrecht - The Hague ). Also Rotterdam is not far; from Bleiswijk a narrow 12 km long road leads south to this town.
There are two very large auction companies in Bleiswijk ; " The Greenery " for vegetables, and FloraHolland for flowers, trees (including from Boskoop ) and garden plants. The limestone soil Bleiswijks is fertile. That is why the village itself has several nurseries with large greenhouses .
history
Bleiswijk has probably been around since the 12th century. A description from 1672 reports that Bleiswijk had its own jurisdiction including blood jurisdiction . That means that Bleiswijk was a sizable village back then. As in other places in the Schieland region , peat was extracted from the moors , gradually creating a lake. This was drained in 1771–72. A mill and a sluice still bear witness to this. The water level in the polder has been regulated by electric pumps since 1911 .
Attractions
- The old village church from the 17th century;
- The popular local recreation area Rottemeren an der Rotte with water sports and a small beach. It serves the inhabitants of Rotterdam and the surrounding area as a substitute for the coastal strip of Holland and Zeeland , which is often inaccessible due to the many traffic jams .
