action

Fuad Ramses has moved to a suburb of Paris with his wife Louise and daughter Penny , where he runs an American diner. The restaurant is in financial difficulties and Fuad is in poor health. In addition to the restaurant business, he also works as a night watchman in a museum for Egyptian art . One evening the goddess Ishtar appears to him there , who leads him to steal various relics. So that this is not noticed, he fakes a robbery.

In the basement he sets up a sacrificial shrine for his goddess and begins to fall for her completely. In the meantime, Penny flirts with the responsible police officer Fatih. When Fuad drives a homeless punk out of his restaurant, he sneaks after him and kills him. He uses his meat for a new steak recipe that is well received by his customers.

Fuad is now pursuing the insane plan to bring the goddess to life. More and more people fall victim to him, including friends of Penny. He is preparing a big feast for Saturday, during which he will feed his victims to his family whom he has drugged. When the feast is almost over, Fatih enters the basement.

background

After the successful remakes of Two Thousand Maniacs! (2005 as 2001 Maniacs ) and The Wizard of Gore also arose the desire to rewrite Herschell Gordon Lewis' first film, which is commonly regarded as the first splatter film . The rights were bought by Gundo Entertainment, but Lewis himself had to agree to a remake. He had already shot the sequel Blood Feast 2: All U Can Eat in 2002 . In Los Angeles, Marcel Walz was finally able to convince the employees of the production company to take over the direction. He also showed them La Petite Mort 2 , one of his early torture porn works. He was also able to convince Herschell Gordon Lewis and commit to a brief guest role as Professor Lou Hershell. This was also the last public appearance of Lewis, who died that same year.

Walz worked with Philip Lilienschwarz on the script . The rather incoherent plot of the original has been completely revised. The two of them shot Absolutio together in 2013 . The cast consisted of both German and US actors. So could Annika Strauss participate, worked for several years with the roll and B-Celebrity Liliana Nova , the ex-wife of Lothar Matthaus , who had her first major role as an actress in the film. Roland Freitag, a cameraman on the set, had to step in at short notice after the originally planned actor dropped out for his role as a police officer. The American actors Robert Rusler and Caroline Williams and the Australian Sophie Monk also played the leading roles . The rest of the crew was also composed internationally. Film director Ryan Nicholson and his wife Megan Nicholson contributed to the special effects and make-up .

Some scenes were shot in Los Angeles and Paris. The main location, however, was the American Diner Flamme & Feuer in Mörlenbach and in the darkroom of the Fetish Club Jails in Mannheim, where the basement scenes and the final feast were shot. Parts of the film were crowdfunded .

The film had its world premiere on August 27, 2016 at the Fright Film Festival in the United Kingdom. It premiered in the United States on April 6, 2018 and was also shown in theaters on April 13, 2018. An R-rated version shortened by around two minutes was shown, supplemented by alternative scenes, and an unrated version was also released. For the German-language release on August 2, 2018, the film had to be shortened by around 2.5 minutes. The basis here was the R-rated version. The film was released uncut as a mediabook on the Austrian label Illusions.

Reviews

On n-tv , Thomas Badtke praised the film as a successful remake. “The effects are skilfully set and the result is one or the other rumbling in the stomach area. The cast around Robert Rusler, who smelled horror air as a child in Nightmare on Elm Street 2 in 1985, as well as Caroline Williams, who starred in The Texas Chainsaw Massacre 2 in 1986 , are quite impressive . It also pays homage to the good old horror splatter and slasher films of the mid-eighties. "
