Boschidar Spassov

Boschidar Spassow ( Bulgarian Божидар Спасов ; born August 13, 1949 in Sofia ) is a Bulgarian composer , violinist and university lecturer .

Career

Spassow started playing the violin at the age of eight . From 1963 to 1968 he went to a music high school , took violin lessons there and studied violin and music theory at the Sofia Music Academy from 1968 to 1970 . In the same year Spassow moved to the Moscow Conservatory and continued his studies in composition , instrumentation and musicology . In 1975 his stage work The Enchanted was performed for the first time, for which he won the 1978 Carl-Maria-von-Weber-Competition in Dresden . From the same year he held a position as a research assistant at the Bulgarian Academy of Sciences , from 1979 on he taught music theory and music history in Plovdiv .

In 1988 Spassow received the first price at the Rome competition " Valentino Bucchi ". In 1990 he moved to Germany . Since 1992 he has been a lecturer at the Folkwang Hochschule in Essen , currently for solfège and literature. From 2003 to 2004 he also taught at the Detmold University of Music . Many of his works have been performed at renowned festivals such as the Darmstadt Summer Courses , the Witten Days for New Chamber Music , the World Music Days or Wien Modern . There are several musicological articles by Spassow, especially on aspects of new music .
