Bomber & Paganini is a German- Austrian caper comedy from 1976. Directed by Nikos Perakis play Mario Adorf and Tilo Prückner the two protagonists .

action

It tells the tragicomic story of two simple and incorrigible petty crooks who always fail in grandiose ways in search of the big coup: One, Bomber, is strong, devout and good-hearted. The other, Paganini, on the other hand, is sensitive but devious and often a malicious and mean guy. The two of them, who have so far kept themselves afloat with small scams and dream of a great career with the Mafia, want to crack a safe together. Nevertheless, everyone plans to cheat their partner in the process. They are so clumsy that they are crippled by the explosion they caused and with which they wanted to open the safe.

Bomber can no longer see and is dependent on the help of Paganini, who in turn can no longer walk and needs a wheelchair. Despite their pronounced mutual dislike, Bomber and Paganini are now inseparably dependent on each other. It remains temporarily with little profitable narrow-gauge ripoffs. They have not lost their bad character either, on the contrary: they lie to and deceive each other as often as they can, and neither treats the other to even the black under the nail. However, despite all these strokes of fate, hope has remained: the crooks are now waiting for a miracle to cure their ailments.

Then the supposed rescue in the form of another big coup approaches: Both plan to rob a lucrative money transport. And as if by divine providence, the criminal plan turns into a disaster that brings both healing at the same time: During the robbery, Paganini rushes down a slope in a wheelchair with the transport of money. There is another explosion as a result of which Paganini can walk again and see bombers again. But the two of them wouldn't be Bomber & Paganini if they didn't immediately get into a fight again. In a violent fight, both of them become cripples again - you can hear the sounds of the song Wie du mir, so ich dir, once performed by the night club singer Mina .

criticism

“A failed mixture of suspense and comedy, which is clearly based on Italian models. Unsure of taste, sometimes also embarrassing. "

- Films 1971–76

"A varied cinema comedy by the director and set designer (" The Tin Drum ") Perakis, who has been based in Munich since 1963. Stylistic uncertainties and dramaturgical deficiencies are made up for by loving detail work and virtuoso type comics. "

- Klaus Brüne (Red.): Lexicon of International Films

"Politically not very correct cripple comedy."
