Francisco de Borja Fernández Fernández (born January 14, 1981 in Ourense ) is a Spanish former football player .
Player career
Born in Galicia, Borja Fernández went through all Real Madrid youth categories . So he played for the C team in the Tercera División (2000/01), for the B team in the Segunda División B (2001-2003) and later even for the first team (2003-2006). Borja played four times in the Champions League for the “Royal” in the 2003/04 season . For the 2005/06 season he was loaned to first division competitor RCD Mallorca , where, however, as in Madrid, he could not achieve a regular place.
For this reason, the midfielder moved to the second division Real Valladolid , where he was able to secure a regular place and with him in 2006/07 he was promoted to the first division. After four years he left Valladolid, which had just been relegated to the second division, and joined the first division club Getafe FC . The following season he moved to the second division club Deportivo La Coruña . With this he was promoted to the Primera División. He then returned to Getafe. After 2 years in the Spanish first division, Borja moved to the newly founded Indian Super League at Atlético de Kolkata , where he was able to secure the championship title with the team right away.
After the season he returned to Spain and signed a contract with SD Eibar .
On May 29, 2019, he was arrested on suspicion of manipulating Spanish professional football matches.
