Fernando Calero Villa (born September 14, 1995 in Boecillo ) is a Spanish football player who has been under contract with the second division Espanyol Barcelona since August 2019 .
Club career
After playing in Real Valladolid's youth team for seven years , Fernando Calero moved to the youth division of Malaga FC in the summer of 2011 . From the 2013/14 season he was listed in the squad of the reserve team, which played in the fourth-rate Tercera División . He made his debut there on March 9, 2014 when he was in the starting line-up in a 2-1 home win in the league game against CD Loja . On January 31, 2015, he scored his first goal in men's football in a 2-2 draw at UD Maracena . In three years he played 64 missions in which he was able to score two goals.
On June 23, 2016 Calero returned to his youth club Real Valladolid, where he played the 2016/17 season in the reserve team. In the third highest Spanish division , he completed 37 games, in which he always completed the entire game. On August 8, 2017, he was promoted to the squad of the first team by coach Luis César Sampedro , which was playing in the Segunda División at the time. He made his debut in a 2-0 away win in the Copa del Rey against SD Huesca on September 6, when he came on for Ángel García in the 47th minute . His league debut followed on matchday 12 in a 2-2 draw against Reus Deportiu . In the second half of the 2017/18 season , he made it into the starting lineup. On May 27, 2018, he met Valladolid's first team for the first time in the 3-2 away defeat against Real Zaragoza . When they reached sixth place in the table they qualified for the promotion playoffs, which they won in the final against CD Numancia and thus rose to the Primera División .
In the 2018/19 season he also retained his regular position in central defense . On December 15, 2018 (matchday 16), he scored his first goal in the top Spanish division in a 3-2 home defeat against Atlético Madrid . That season he played 36 games.
On August 9, 2019, Fernando Calero moved to league rivals Espanyol Barcelona , where he signed a five-year contract and was to inherit Mario Hermoso, who had moved to Atlético Madrid . A transfer fee of eight million was paid for the central defender. He made his debut on August 18 (1st matchday) in the 2-0 home defeat against Sevilla FC . Due to injury concerns, he could not finally play in the starting line-up in the 2019/20 season and therefore only played 15 league games. With Espanyol he had to relegate to the second-rate Segunda División .
