Omar Rodriguez Lopez
Omar Alfredo Rodriguez Lopez (born September 1, 1975 in Bayamón , Puerto Rico ) is an American guitarist , composer , music producer and film director .
Life
Music career
He began his musical career as a bassist and later guitarist with the post-hardcore band At the Drive-In . After their dissolution in 2001, he and his long-time friend and bandmate Cedric Bixler-Zavala founded the prog rock band The Mars Volta , their first album De-Loused in the Comatorium (2003) due to the diverse fusion of different musical styles by the press and the listener provoked enthusiastic reactions. The Mars Volta disbanded in 2013.
Rodriguez Lopez is also extremely active as a soloist. So far over 20 solo albums have been released, in which various guests such as John Frusciante , Damo Suzuki and Jeremy Ward also participate. Since 2012 he has also been working on a new project called Bosnian Rainbows , the first album of which was released on June 28, 2013.
In 2014, a band, Antemasque , formed again with Bixler-Zavala and released their debut album of the same name on July 1, 2014.
Progressive rock , jazz and salsa can be described as cornerstones of his musical work . His preferred guitar is his signature guitar , an Ibanez ORM1 ( left-handed version).
Directing career
In 2011 he shot the film drama The Sentimental Engine Slayer as a composer, director, film producer and actor , which premiered at the Tribeca Film Festival . In 2012, the romantic comedy Los Chidos followed, which he presented at the South by Southwest film festival . His third drama El Divino Influjo de los Secretos follows in late autumn 2012 .
