Bowallno ( Polish Wawelno , Silesian Bowalno , 1936–1945 Walldorf , 1945–2001 Wąwelno ) is a village in Poland in the municipality Comprachtschütz ( Komprachcice ) in the powiat Opolski in the Opole Voivodeship .

Geographical location
Bowallno is six kilometers northwest of the municipality Comprachtschütz and fourteen kilometers west of the district town and voivodeship capital Opole ( Opole ).
The two provincial roads Droga wojewódzka 429 and Droga wojewódzka 435 run through the village .

Neighboring towns of Bowallno are Dambrau ( Dąbrowa ) in the north, Chrosczinna ( Chróścina ) in the east and Neudorf ( Polska Nowa Wieś ) in the southeast .
history
The place is first mentioned in 1328 as Wadelno . In 1336 it was mentioned as Wawelno . In 1532 the place was mentioned as Wamwalno . The place name is derived from the name of the founder, Wawel's village .
In 1845 there was a Catholic school and another 70 houses in the village. In the same year, 483 people lived in Bowallo, nine of them Protestants. In 1874 the district became Chrosczinna, to which Bowallno was incorporated. In 1890 there were 729 inhabitants, in 1910 there were 841 inhabitants.
In the referendum on March 20, 1921 , 648 eligible voters voted to remain with Germany and 61 for Poland. Bowallno remained with the German Empire. In 1933 there were 1,139 inhabitants. On May 19, 1936, the place was renamed Walldorf . In 1939 the place had 1,166 inhabitants. Until 1945 the place was in the district of Opole .
In 1945 the previously German place came under Polish administration and was renamed Wąwelno and joined the Silesian Voivodeship. In 1950 the place came to the Opole Voivodeship . In 1999 the place came to the re-established Powiat Opolski . Bowallno has been officially bilingual (Polish and German) since 2009.
