Brójce ( German Brätz ) is a village in the municipality of Trzciel ( Tirschtiegel ) in the powiat Międzyrzecki ( Meseritz district ) in the Polish Lubusz voivodeship .

Geographical location

The village is located in Lower Silesia on the Faulen Obra , around a hundred kilometers east of Frankfurt (Oder) or Küstrin and around twenty kilometers southeast of the city of Meseritz ( Międzyrzecz ).

Dorfkirche (Protestant town church until 1945)

The village of Brätz belonged to a district that had come to Duke Heinrich von Glogau in the 13th century , who then pledged it to the Brandenburg Margrave Konrad I († 1304) in 1298 or a little later . The village received city rights in 1428.

The cornerstones of the town's economy were growing vegetables, raising livestock, brewing and, later, the textile industry.

After almost all townspeople had joined the Reformation , they took over the parish church on the market square, but soon had to give it back. Since there were hardly any Catholics left in the city, the church remained unused from 1604 and fell into disrepair; it collapsed in the 18th century.

Towards the end of the 18th century, the town was liable to pay interest to Lukas von Brunski with 311 talers . In 1657 a large part of the city burned down. In 1797 the city had a town hall, 160 fire places and 979 residents, including ten Jewish families.

Until 1922 the city of Brätz belonged to the district of Meseritz in the administrative district of Posen of the province of Posen , from 1922 to 1939 in the province of Grenzmark Posen-West Prussia and since 1939 in the administrative district of Frankfurt of the province of Brandenburg .

Towards the end of the Second World War , the region was occupied by the Red Army in the spring of 1945 . Soon afterwards Brätz was placed under Polish administration. In the following period, the residents were evicted by the local Polish administration and replaced by Poles. Brätz was renamed Brójce and lost its town charter .
