Brand is a place and a cadastral municipality of the Brand-Nagelberg municipality in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .

Population development

The first census in Austria-Hungary in 1869 counted 720 people on fire. In the following decades the population steadily decreased and reached 596 inhabitants in 1951. In the second half of the 20th century the number of inhabitants also fell steadily and on January 1st, 2020 the village had only 443 inhabitants.

Settlement development

At the turn of the year 1979/1980 there was a total of 153 building areas with 65,628 m² and 71 gardens on 37,994 m² in the cadastral community of Brand, in 1989/1990 there were 250 building areas. In 1999/2000 the number of construction areas had increased to 646 and in 2009/2010 there were 289 buildings on 636 construction areas.

Agriculture

The cadastral community is characterized by agriculture. 408 hectares were used for agriculture at the turn of the year 1979/1980 and 46 hectares were forest areas. In 1999/2000 agriculture was carried out on 345 hectares and 69 hectares were designated as areas used for forestry. At the end of 2018, 335 hectares were used as agricultural land and forestry was carried out on 72 hectares. The average soil climate number of Brand is 18.1 (as of 2010).
