Brand-Nagelberg is a market town with 1512 inhabitants (as of January 1, 2020) in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .
geography
Brand-Nagelberg is located in the Waldviertel in Lower Austria. The area of the market town covers 36.63 km² . 68.22 percent of the area is forested.
Community structure
The municipality includes the following five localities (population in brackets as of January 1, 2020):
- Alt-Nagelberg (580) including felling
- Brand (443) including Brandteichhäuser and Lunkowitzhäuser
- Finsternau (160) including the six house
- New Nagelberg (102)
- Steinbach (227) including Forsthartl and Waldhäuseln
The community consists of the cadastral communities Brand, Finsternau, Nagelberg and Steinbach.
Brand-Nagelberg is a member municipality of the Waldviertler StadtLand region .

history
Finds from the Neolithic Age were made at the Kaiblloch and Kaiblstein .
The village of Brand came into being after a forest fire in 1666 and was first mentioned in 1686. The village of Steinbach was mentioned for the first time in 1369.
Nagelberg is a traditional place for glass production. A glassworks is documented for the year 1635 . From 1725 the existence of the Kallmünzerschen Glashütte in Alt-Nagelberg, the "Althütte", is considered to have been secured. The “Neuhütte” in Neu-Nagelberg existed from 1811 to 1931. Both production sites came into the possession of Carl Stölzle, the founder of Stölzle-Oberglas , in 1858 .
Brand was raised to a market town in 1927. After the Second World War , numerous new one- and two-family houses and community buildings were built .

In the golden field above a mountain, the coat of arms shows a forest from which tongues of red fire emerge.
Partner communities
- since 1974 Brunn am Gebirge . Both communities were traditional glass production sites.
Population development
After a peak at the beginning of the 20th century, the population decreased almost constantly. In the last few decades, both the birth balance and the migration balance have been negative.

Culture and sights
- Catholic parish church in Brand near Gmünd hl. Andreas
- Catholic parish church Nagelberg hl. Joseph the Worker: The church was built from 1959 to 1960.
- The local chapel of the Crucified Savior in Steinbach dates from 1786.
economy
There are 40 agricultural and forestry businesses in the municipality, 12 of which are full-time businesses (as of 2010). In the manufacturing sector there are 21 companies, twelve are engaged in the manufacture of goods, nine are active in construction. A total of 68 people are employed here. The service sector employs 153 people in 64 companies, mainly in social and public services and in trade (as of 2011).

- Train: In Brand-Nagelberg there are several stations of the Waldviertel narrow-gauge railways .
- Street: In Neu-Nagelberg there is a border crossing on European route 49 into Halámky in the Czech Republic .
- Hiking trail: In addition, the hiking border crossing Rapšach-Spáleniště / Brand leads from Finsternau through the woods to Malý Londýn in the Czech Republic .
education
- Kindergarten: There are two kindergartens in the community, one in Alt-Nagelberg and one in Brand.
- Elementary school: There is an elementary school in Alt-Nagelberg.
