Steinbach is a village and a cadastral municipality in the Brand-Nagelberg municipality in the Gmünd district in Lower Austria .

history

Steinbach was in the Litschau rule from 1688 to 1788 and then came (again) to the Heidenreichstein rule.

Population development

In 1751 Steinbach counted 24 subordinate houses.

In the first census in Austria-Hungary in 1869, 560 people lived in Steinbach. In the following decades the population decreased slightly and reached 513 inhabitants in 1951. In the second half of the 20th century the number of inhabitants fell rapidly and was about 300 inhabitants towards the end. When it was last recorded on January 1, 2020, Steinbach counted 227 inhabitants.

Settlement development

At the turn of the year 1979/1980 there were a total of 115 building areas with 47,687 m² and 72 gardens on 55,926 m² in the cadastral community of Steinbach, in 1989/1990 there were 139 building areas. In 1999/2000 the number of building areas had grown to 386 and in 2009/2010 there were 173 buildings on 375 building areas.

Agriculture

The cadastral community is characterized by agriculture. 405 hectares were used for agriculture at the turn of the year 1979/1980 and 977 hectares were forest areas. In 1999/2000 agriculture was carried out on 317 hectares and 1,051 hectares were designated as areas used for forestry. At the end of 2018, 306 hectares were used as agricultural land and forestry was carried out on 104,847 hectares. The average soil climate number of Steinbach is 18.3 (as of 2010).
