Brandanus Daetrius

Brandanus Daetrius (born June 4, 1607 in Hamburg , † November 22, 1688 in Wolfenbüttel ; also Dätri Brandan ) was a German Lutheran theologian .

Life

The son of a typist and mathematician attended schools in his hometown and in Einbeck . From 1630 to 1636 he studied theology at the University of Helmstedt . He then spent two years Gesandtschafts preacher at the Swedish ambassador Hugo Grotius in Paris . He then took over a pastorate in Weende for a short time . In 1638 Daetrius became court preacher for Duke Georg in Hildesheim and Hanover . In 1643, as the successor to Michael Walther the Elder , he exercised this position with Count Ulrich in Aurich , connected with the Lutheran general superintendent. On March 14th of that year the University of Helmstedt appointed him doctor of theology. In 1646 Brandanus Daetrius became city ​​superintendent of Braunschweig . In 1662 Daetrius was appointed chief court preacher, consistorial director and abbot in Riddagshausen monastery . He is buried in the church of the monastery. Albertus Elers (1618–1680) followed him in 1648 as Lutheran general superintendent of East Frisia and court preacher .
