A brass ensemble , and Brass Ensemble (English-French technical term), is an ensemble whose members mainly brass instruments playing. The voices are often soloist, which means that each musician has an independent voice to play. The ensembles perform with or without a conductor . Since the development of the western brass ensemble goes back to the classical brass section of a symphony orchestra , its instruments such as horns , trumpets , trombones and tubas are mostly used. Some ensembles add percussion instruments to their instruments or use the piccolo trumpet , flugelhorn and the euphonium for tonal variation .

Occupations

The brass quartet is an instrumentation with two trumpets and two trombones. In the church area, four-part chants can be accompanied. The low voices can also be substituted with horn (1st trombone) or tuba (2nd trombone).

The brass quintet consists of two trumpets, horn, trombone and tuba.

Two ensembles have developed as larger brass ensembles, which were established by well-known ensembles. This is partly the Philip Jones duty system with four trumpets, a horn, four trombones and a tuba, and the German Brass duty system with four trumpets, two horns, three trombones and a tuba. In the amateur area there is also a mixture of these two instrumentations with four trumpets, two horns, four trombones and a tuba. This enables the music from both ensembles to be performed. Examples are R (h) einblech, Niederrhein Brass or Münchner Blechreiz .

Some professional ensembles are formed with professional musicians from symphony orchestras. These include, for example, 10forBrass , OperaBrass , Blechschaden , Salaputia Brass , German Brass , Mnozil Brass , Pro Brass and the Philip Jones Brass Ensemble , from which London Brass emerged . The brass section of the Berliner Philharmoniker is also active as an ensemble.

Other brass groups include the trombone choir , the British brass band , Serbian brass music and the Indonesian tanjidor . The Gangbé Brass Band from the West African Benin is internationally known.
