Breaking In is a 2018 American thriller directed by James McTeigue . The film was released on May 11, 2018 in the USA and was released in German cinemas on August 16, 2018.

Shaun Russell drives with her children Jasmine and Glover to the house of their father Isaac to sell the house after his violent death. Four criminals break into the house right before they arrive. The goal of their raid is Isaac's safe. While Shaun is out of the house, they take their children hostage. Instead of giving up, however, Shaun decides to fight back, among other things by using the technical aids in her father's house against the burglars.

Karsten Munt from the film service says that the film only “concentrates on one single vanishing point: the role of the mother. An approach whose potential is exhausted in constantly repeated platitudes such as 'Mothers don't run away' and accordingly cannot bear the film as a unique selling point ”.
