Breite is a district in the Herkenrath district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

Breite is on the outskirts of Herkenrath in the direction of Sand . The name of the settlement comes from an old designation of the tub , which is specified in the original cadastre as "Auf der Breiten" . In connection with the hunting borders on September 22nd, 1658 there is talk of "the Herkenrahder Velt, called the Breidt".

In 1905 there were seven residential buildings with 51 residents. The field name Auf der Breiten goes back to the Middle High German broad (= broad part or field) and describes a wide field or field with little difference in height.
