Kierdorf is a district in the Herkenrath district of Bergisch Gladbach .

history

In the south-western area of Herkenrath lies the village of Kierdorf, which has its origins in the Kierdorfer Hof, which is mentioned as early as 1277 on the occasion of a donation by the knight Robert von Rosenau to the Johanniterkommende Herrenstrunden . The farm was managed by a tenant until secularization in 1806. In 1905 nine residential buildings with 45 residents were counted here.

The neighboring Kierdorfer Wald belonged to the village of Kierdorf. The name of the settlement goes back etymologically to the Old High German word “keran” (= turn, turn) or the Middle High German “Kêre” (= turn, reversal) and means something like village at a bend in the road . Kierdorf has always been on the road from Herkenrath to Sand , where the road has a sharp bend.

According to the overview of the government district of Cöln , the place categorized as a building property owned a house in 1845. At that time there were six people living in the village, all of them Catholic.
