The Breithorn is with a height of 2504 m above sea level. A. Located on the southern edge of the Stone Sea . It is located in the Zell am See (Pinzgau) district of the State of Salzburg .
Seen from the south, the mountain stands with a relief of about 1300 meters in the southern slope of the Steinernes Meer over Saalfelden , to the left Persailhorn ( 2347 m above sea level ) and Mitterhorn ( 2491 m above sea level ). The summit is located west of the Ramseider Scharte where the Riemannhaus is located. Opposite the saddle is the Sommerstein ( 2308 m above sea level ) and Schönegg ( 2390 m above sea level ).
From the north it is inconspicuous with a flat ascent from the high plateau that extends to Funtensee in Bavaria.
The ascent to the Breithorn can be mastered both via the southern ascent ( difficulty III- ) and from the Riemannhaus refuge (not difficult , the walking time from there is around one and a half hours).
