The Riemannhaus is an Alpine Club hut belonging to the German Alpine Club at an altitude of 2177 meters in the Ramseider Scharte between Sommerstein (2308 m) and Breithorn (2504 m). It is located in the Steinerne Meer in the Berchtesgaden Alps in the Salzburger Land high above the valley basin of Saalfelden am Steinernen Meer and Maria Alm am Steinernen Meer . The central location makes the Riemannhaus one of the most important bases in the Steinerne Meer. From here, experienced mountaineers can undertake numerous crossings and summit ascents. Extensive plateau hikes as well as challenging summit destinations in the immediate vicinity are ideal. In winter many are ski tours possible, can sleep up to six people in the winter room.
history
This high alpine refuge got its name from its builder Rudolf Ehrenfried Riemann. Riemann was in 1825 in Poznan, the son of the "Privy Council Government Riemann" born and came in 1864 for the first time after Zell am See . From 1872 to 1880, the year his health deteriorated, he chaired the Alpine Club section in Zell am See. At that time, Saalfelden did not have its own section of this alpine organization. During this time, the Ramseidersteig was built, the path up to the Ramseider Scharte, for which he donated 500 guilders. At the same time, the Riemannhaus was built and inaugurated on August 29, 1885 in favor of the Pinzgau Section. Riemann, who was already seriously ill (and died on September 24th of that year), was represented at the celebration by family members. The building committee dedicated a portrait to him, which was to adorn the house in Riemann's eternal memory. When the shelter opened, there were beds for seven people, later 15 beds and nine mountain guide dormitories.
The Ingolstadt section of the German Alpine Club, which runs the building to this day, expanded the building in 1902 as part of a renovation that was inaugurated on July 22nd that year, with ten rooms (24 beds) and 16 mattress dorms in the attic.
Today the house is managed by the second generation of tenants, Manfred Gruber. Over the years, renovations and extensions have taken place so that today 20 beds in rooms and around 120 beds in camps can be offered.
On the occasion of the opening of the Riemannhaus it was happily announced: “From now on, all peaks of the Steinernes Meer are open to every mountain lover!” And that applies equally today.

Several alpine climbing routes on the Sommerstein (up to VII +) as well as a route on the Breithorn (V +) can be done from the Riemannhaus. There is no strenuous ascent if you stay at the hut.
