Brendan Gaunce (born March 25, 1994 in Greater Sudbury , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Boston Bruins in the National Hockey League since July 2019 and for their farm team, the Providence Bruins , in the American Hockey League is used. Previously, the center spent five years organizing the Vancouver Canucks .
Career
Brendan Gaunce was born in Greater Sudbury, but grew up in Markham, about 400 kilometers away . In his youth he played for the local Markham Waxers , following his brother Cameron , who is also a professional ice hockey player. Brendan Gaunce was selected in the Priority Selection 2010 of the Ontario Hockey League (OHL) in second overall position by the Belleville Bulls and ran for the team with the start of the 2010/11 season in the OHL. In his rookie season, the attacker scored 36 points in 65 games and also represented Team Canada Ontario over the turn of the year at the World U-17 Hockey Challenge 2011 , where he won the gold medal with the team. In August of the same year he won another gold medal with the Canadian selection at the Ivan Hlinka Memorial Tournament 2011 .
In his draft year, the 2011/12 season, Gaunce achieved a point average of exactly 1.0 (68 in 68 games) in the OHL, was invited to the CHL Top Prospects Game and won with the U18 national team of his home country in the U18 -World Championship 2012 the bronze medal. He was then selected in the 2012 NHL Entry Draft in 26th position by the Vancouver Canucks , who provided him with an entry contract a few weeks later . However, the Canadian then returned to the Bulls in the OHL, which he led as team captain for a season and a half before he was transferred to the Erie Otters in November 2013 . In return, Stephen Harper and four draft voting rights moved to Belleville.
With the Otters, Gaunce ended the season and then switched to the organization of the Canucks, who initially used him in their farm team , the Utica Comets , in the American Hockey League (AHL). The Canadian spent the entire 2014/15 season in Utica and reached the final of the Calder Cup with the Comets , but failed there with 1: 4 to the Manchester Monarchs . At the beginning of the 2015/16 season, Gaunce made his debut for the Canucks in the National Hockey League (NHL), but was sent back to the AHL after a few appearances. It was not until the end of the season that the Canucks called him back to the NHL squad, so that he came to a total of 20 missions. At the beginning of the 2016/17 season, Gaunce established himself in the Canucks squad, but lost this regular place again in the course of the following years.
After all, his expiring contract was not extended after the 2018/19 season, so he joined the Boston Bruins as a free agent in July 2019 .
