Cameron Gaunce (born March 19, 1990 in Greater Sudbury , Ontario ) is a Canadian ice hockey player who has been under contract with the Tampa Bay Lightning of the National Hockey League since July 2018 and for their farm team , the Syracuse Crunch , in American Hockey League plays in the position of defender . His brother Brendan Gaunce is also a professional ice hockey player.
Career
Cameron Gaunce started playing for the Mississauga St. Michael's Majors in the Ontario Hockey League from the 2007/08 season . Following his first season, the defender was appointed to the OHL All Rookie Team. Gaunce completed two more seasons for the majors, in which he was appointed to the respective Second All-Star Team, and was invited to the OHL All-Star Game in the 2009/10 season . This season the majors reached the Eastern Conference finals of the Ontario Hockey League, where the team, however, lost to the Barrie Colts in the best-of-seven series after five games .
In the 2008 NHL Entry Draft , the defender was selected in the second round at a total of 50th position by the Colorado Avalanche . The defender signed his first professional contract with Colorado on March 11, 2009 and played from the 2010/11 season for Colorado's farm team , the Lake Erie Monsters , in the American Hockey League . Gaunce completed 54 games for the Monsters before playing his first NHL game for the Avalanche on February 12, 2011. His first goal in the National Hockey League , he scored two games later, when the Avalanche lost to the Pittsburgh Penguins . Cameron Gaunce finished the 2010/11 NHL season in Colorado and played a total of eleven games for the Denver franchise .
On April 2, 2013 he was transferred to the Dallas Stars in exchange for striker Tomáš Vincour . There he came to only nine NHL appearances in two years and otherwise played for the Texas Stars in the AHL. In July 2015 he moved to the Florida Panthers , where he was used exclusively with the Portland Pirates in the following season . In July 2016, he signed a new one-year contract with the Pittsburgh Penguins , as well as with the Columbus Blue Jackets in July 2017 and with the Tampa Bay Lightning in July 2018 .
