The Brittany is a Ro-Ro - ferry of the French shipping company Brittany Ferries , on the route between Portsmouth and Saint-Malo is used.

history

The ship was built under the hull number D29 at the Chantiers de l'Atlantique shipyard. The launching of the ship took place on 4 February 1989th The ship was completed on July 6th and entered service on July 16, 1989. The cost of the ship was £  55 million.

The ship was initially used on the route between Plymouth and Santander and has served the route between Portsmouth and Saint-Malo since 1993.

The ship was named after the region in France .

Technical data and equipment

The drive of the ship by four four-stroke - twelve-cylinder - diesel engine the manufacturer Wärtsilä (type: 12V32D) totaling 17,760  kW power . The motors act on two controllable pitch propellers . The ship reaches a speed of 22.5  knots . The ship is equipped with two bow thrusters .

A wave generator with 460 kW output (575  kVA apparent power ) and three diesel generators with 2,350 kW output (2,938 kVA apparent power) are available for power generation.

There is space for 2,056 passengers on board. The ship has 376 passenger cabins with a total of 1,146 beds. In addition, 15 cots are available, which can be used in the cabins if necessary. In addition to the cabins, there are 319 recliners available on board. The passenger cabins are located on decks 1 and 2 as well as 6 and 8, the recliners on deck 8 and 9. The facilities for passengers are located on decks 5–9, including restaurants and bars, cinemas and shops. There is also a sundeck on deck 9.

There is space for 580 cars and 39 trucks on the ro-ro decks with 735  lane meters . The ro-ro decks, which are located on decks 3, 4 and 5, can be reached via a bow and stern ramp and connected to one another in the ship by ramps. In front of the bow ramp there is a laterally opening bow hatch .
