Brian McGuinness

Brian McGuinness (* 22. October 1927 in Wrexham , Wales as Bernard Francis McGuinness ; † 23. December 2019 in Florence ) was a British philosopher . His works and publications are mainly related to the life and work of the philosopher Ludwig Wittgenstein and the Vienna Circle .

Life

McGuinness attended 1938-1945 the Mount St Mary's College in Sheffield and studied from 1945 to 1953 at Balliol College of Oxford University . There he was a student at Balliol College.

McGuinness was a student of RM Hare . He was 1953-1988 Fellow and tutor at Queen's College of Oxford University . From 1988 to 1990 he was a “Fellow-in-Residence” at the Netherlands Institute for Advanced Study (NIAS) in Wassenaar . From 1990 he was a professor at the University of Siena (Italy), from 1990 to 1993 he was director of the Institute for Philosophy and Social Sciences (Dipartimento di Filosofia e Scienze Sociali). The University of Innsbruck awarded him an honorary doctorate in 2017.
