The 42nd season of the British Touring Car Championship began on April 4, 1999 at Donington Park and ended on September 19, 1999 at Silverstone . After 26 races, Laurent Aïello won ahead of David Leslie (both Nissan Primera ) and last year's winner Rickard Rydell ( Volvo S40 ). Nissan was the winner of the constructors' championship .

Changes

  • Audi and Peugeot left the championship for the 1999 season. Renault, Volvo and Nissan, the champions of the past three years, announced at the end of the 1999 season that they would also be leaving the BTCC.
  • The first night race took place in Snetterton. The pit lane and the spectator areas were illuminated, while the rest of the track was left in total darkness. A soft red light was installed in the cockpit to make it easier for the drivers to change light conditions (light to dark and dark to light).
