The 47th season of the British Touring Car Championship began on April 10, 2004 in Thruxton and ended on September 26, 2004 in Donington Park . It consisted of ten race weekends with three races each on nine different tracks. After a total of 30 races, James Thompson won ahead of Yvan Muller (both Vauxhall Astra Coupe ) and Jason Plato ( Seat Toledo S2000). Vauxhall was the winner of the constructors' championship .
Changes to the 2004 season
The pit stops during the races have been abolished. Three races were held on each race weekend. The starting grid for the second race of a race weekend was determined by the target order of the second race, but with the first ten in reverse order.
