Bronisław Bernacki ( Ukrainian Броніслав Бернацький ; born September 30, 1944 in Murafa ) is a Ukrainian clergyman and emeritus bishop of Odessa-Simferopol .

Life

The Apostolic Administrator of Riga , Julijans Vaivods , ordained him on May 28, 1972 .

Pope John Paul II appointed him on May 4, 2002 as the first bishop of the diocese of Odessa-Simferopol, established on the same date . The Archbishop of Lemberg , Marian Cardinal Jaworski , donated him episcopal ordination on July 4th of the same year ; Co -consecrators were Archbishop Nikola Eterović , Apostolic Nuncio in Ukraine, and Jan Olszański MIC , Bishop Emeritus of Kamjanets-Podilskyj . As a motto he chose Per Mariam ad Jesum .

After the violent clashes in Odessa in early May 2014 in connection with the 2014 crisis in Ukraine , Bernacki called on all political forces at home and abroad to make peace efforts. Apparently he also blamed Russia for the events.

Pope Francis accepted his age-related resignation on February 18, 2020.
