Bruce Stillman
Bruce William Stillman (born October 16, 1953 in Melbourne ) is an Australian biologist and basic researcher . He has been President of the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory , a prestigious research facility in Cold Spring Harbor , Long Island , New York , since 2003 .
Life
Bruce Stillman earned a bachelor's degree from the University of Sydney in 1975 and a Ph.D. at the Australian National University in Canberra . As a postdoctoral fellow , Stillman went to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory in the US state of New York and always stayed at this institution: since 1985 as a professor, since 1992 as director of the local cancer research center, from 1994 to 2003 as director of the entire institution (successor by James Watson ) and since 2003 as its President. In addition, since 1992 he has held a professorship in microbiology and molecular genetics at Stony Brook University in Stony Brook on Long Island .
Act
Bruce Stillman is regarded as a pioneer in the study of DNA replication and chromosomal inheritance . Stillman and his colleagues were able to identify numerous proteins that are required for DNA replication. The nucleosomes are of particular interest . Stillman and co-workers succeeded in recreating the complete replication apparatus of the simian virus 40 in vitro. Stillman's work contributed significantly to the understanding of the replication fork in eukaryotic cells.
Stillman is a co-editor of Cell magazine and serves on the board of directors of the Massachusetts Institute of Technology (MIT) in Cambridge , Massachusetts . He is also a member of the scientific advisory boards of numerous institutions, specialist societies (including the National Research Council and the National Cancer Institute ) and specialist journals.
According to Google Scholar, Stillman has an h-index of 104, according to the Scopus database it is 91 (as of June 2020).
