Cold Spring Harbor is a small town in Suffolk County , New York on the north coast of Long Island . The 2010 US census showed a population of 5,070. Cold Spring Harbor is part of the city of Huntington and is home to the Cold Spring Harbor Laboratory and the Cold Spring Harbor Whaling Museum.

The 2000 census showed 4,975 inhabitants in 1,753 households and 1,416 families. The population density was 516.4 / km². There were 1790 residential buildings (an average of 185.8 per km²). The population was 97.03% white, 0.42% African American, 0.02% Native American, and 1.31% Asian; 0.24% of the residents stated that they were of another ethnic origin, 0.98% said they had two or more ethnicities.
Of the 1,753 households, 38.8% had children under the age of 18 and 71.8% were married. 7.1% had a woman as the sole head of the household, 19.2% were not families. 14.9% of all households were made up of individuals, 5.8% of whom were at least 65 years old. The average size of a household was 2.84 people, for a family this figure was 3.15 people.
At the time of the census, 26.7% of the population were younger than 18 years, 4.2% between 18 and 24, 28.9% between 25 and 44, 26.9% between 45 and 64 and 13.4% were 65 years of age or older. The average age was 40 years. In total, there were 94.9 men for every 100 women and 92.1 men for every 100 women over the age of 18.
